Today i had an awakening of what exactly constitutes Call centre Job, direct from a call centre employee say Ram. So let me share some of the insights I got from Ram. This is the interview of Mr.Ram
AK: Do tell what one does in a Call Centre Job?
Ram :Call centre job is broadly classified as In-bound and Out-bound ( in Layman terms). The inbound is the customer care type of jobs, where the BPO employee gets the call. The outbound is the one , in whichhe is supposed to call people incessantly and convince them to get a insurance plan, join an MBA college and so- on..
AK: In which one you work?
Ram: I was in an Outbound one for a month, Then I left the job and now in an Inbound one.
Ak: Oh! Is Outbound Call centre job terrible?
Ram: Yeah, sort of. You have to call people and they show all their anger on you. The employee has to bear with all the scoldings and displeasure of the prospective customer.
AK: Can you just elaborate?
Ram: Some people , just give rude responses. They show all the despair of their day on us. They vent out their anger on us. Some people , hear all your schemes and atlast tell you in their polite way, they are students/ House wife/already in some other company schemes and they may join once they settle in life. Which will drain off our patience.
AK: Oh ! Howz the new job?
Ram: Yeah, its much better. Ofcourse some customers, when speaking to us, are full of rage when there is a problem in the company's services. But the anger is on the company not on the individual. Moreover, people see us as experts who can solve their problems.
AK: Ogay! Wherez your company?
Ram: Near Silk board , Bangalore
AK: How did you get selected for the Job?
Ram: Hmmm there were 5 rounds in whole. First it is the tell me about yourself, thing where you are supposed to talk on the subject, to the interview panel, who give you an uninterested expression, till the panel tells you to stop.
Then your resume is throughly checked. It is made sure that you are not BE/Btech and are not pursuing one.
AK : They dont like engineers?
Ram: They think, they may leave the company and they are in the job only for short span. As if, jobs are readily awaiting for the Engineers
AK: Yep. 3 Round?
Ram: There was a Group discussion, where i managed with my communication skills . Then the 4th Round was to attend a realtime call and answer effectively
AK: Oh! Then the Last one?
Ram: We were given 3 sheets of paper and have to grasp the whole thing and attend a call, and answer questions on what we perused.
AK: Thats really a gruelling Interview!(An MBA college interview would have been easier. Its not child play to get into the Inbound call centre Job.Lots of competion boss :) ) Howz the Job
Ram Fine. comfortable. gives good money, People are friendly.
AK: So u work for UK based one?
Ram: yep. UK based is better . as UK ascent is one, which can follow easier than the US one. The 5 hour time gap, sees to that we get some respite in the work, be it night Shift/day shift.
AK: Hmmm, Really learnt a lot of things today. Thanks Ram. you have any message for the public
Ram: Thank you, AK! We do understand that, there is too many a call you get beseeching you to take this scheme or that and also that, when you call the customer care, there is a long waiting queue and once you speak, somtimes we cannot immediately get the hang of the problem. You please understand that, this we do cause this is our job. lets talk business, No rubbish
