Today i had an awakening of what exactly constitutes Call centre Job, direct from a call centre employee say Ram. So let me share some of the insights I got from Ram. This is the interview of Mr.Ram
AK: Do tell what one does in a Call Centre Job?
Ram :Call centre job is broadly classified as In-bound and Out-bound ( in Layman terms). The inbound is the customer care type of jobs, where the BPO employee gets the call. The outbound is the one , in whichhe is supposed to call people incessantly and convince them to get a insurance plan, join an MBA college and so- on..
AK: In which one you work?
Ram: I was in an Outbound one for a month, Then I left the job and now in an Inbound one.
Ak: Oh! Is Outbound Call centre job terrible?
Ram: Yeah, sort of. You have to call people and they show all their anger on you. The employee has to bear with all the scoldings and displeasure of the prospective customer.
AK: Can you just elaborate?
Ram: Some people , just give rude responses. They show all the despair of their day on us. They vent out their anger on us. Some people , hear all your schemes and atlast tell you in their polite way, they are students/ House wife/already in some other company schemes and they may join once they settle in life. Which will drain off our patience.
AK: Oh ! Howz the new job?
Ram: Yeah, its much better. Ofcourse some customers, when speaking to us, are full of rage when there is a problem in the company's services. But the anger is on the company not on the individual. Moreover, people see us as experts who can solve their problems.
AK: Ogay! Wherez your company?
Ram: Near Silk board , Bangalore
AK: How did you get selected for the Job?
Ram: Hmmm there were 5 rounds in whole. First it is the tell me about yourself, thing where you are supposed to talk on the subject, to the interview panel, who give you an uninterested expression, till the panel tells you to stop.
Then your resume is throughly checked. It is made sure that you are not BE/Btech and are not pursuing one.
AK : They dont like engineers?
Ram: They think, they may leave the company and they are in the job only for short span. As if, jobs are readily awaiting for the Engineers
AK: Yep. 3 Round?
Ram: There was a Group discussion, where i managed with my communication skills . Then the 4th Round was to attend a realtime call and answer effectively
AK: Oh! Then the Last one?
Ram: We were given 3 sheets of paper and have to grasp the whole thing and attend a call, and answer questions on what we perused.
AK: Thats really a gruelling Interview!(An MBA college interview would have been easier. Its not child play to get into the Inbound call centre Job.Lots of competion boss :) ) Howz the Job
Ram Fine. comfortable. gives good money, People are friendly.
AK: So u work for UK based one?
Ram: yep. UK based is better . as UK ascent is one, which can follow easier than the US one. The 5 hour time gap, sees to that we get some respite in the work, be it night Shift/day shift.
AK: Hmmm, Really learnt a lot of things today. Thanks Ram. you have any message for the public
Ram: Thank you, AK! We do understand that, there is too many a call you get beseeching you to take this scheme or that and also that, when you call the customer care, there is a long waiting queue and once you speak, somtimes we cannot immediately get the hang of the problem. You please understand that, this we do cause this is our job. lets talk business, No rubbish
AK: Ofcourse Ram

To Do, or Not to do
"To do, or not to do " ( Inspiration from the opening lines of a poem of Hamlet "To be, or not to be" )
This article is just a similar internal conflict of whether one has to do his work on his own or employ others for his works. In the environment of Office, it is more or less defined which are the areas one has to delegate and which are the areas, one has to do on his own. The ambiguity is even lesser owing to the increasing work load which forces one to delegate appropriately. But in your Home?
Your personal Chores?
So should we do our work? At least petty works? Washing our clothes, Scrubbing the utensils, Cooking our food, Cleaning the house, Ironing and so on. It is of-course our work. Keeping a servant for our own work, is it justified?
Lets take the case of Mahatma. He made it a point to do his work on his own. He went to the extent of spinning his own clothes, Growing food in his own farms. Cleaning the toilets. His autobiography also mentions about his ordeal of trimming his hair himself.
But the talk of the town is division of labour. It is highly justified in leaving the hair dressing to the barber. The household works to the House Maid. The tailoring work to the tailor and so on. So Whats wrong? moreover, you are generating a living and ensuring the flow of money by delegating.
A deeper study of Gandhiji says, he was not totally against the delegation of the Household works. So why all the trouble in establishing the model farms. One of the most blatant purpose is to establish self reliance and self sufficiency. This gave Indians confidence and unity and defined a way of living which they can be proud of .
He made it a point that even his wife is not spared the task of cleaning the toilets. ( Richard Attenborough 's Gandhi is an easy ref for us ) . This takes us to the inner , in depth purpose of his acts. Every work has its own importance. Dignity of Labour is the point to be stressed. No work is to be looked down upon.
My conclusion in this dilemma is, We can very well delegate our house chores. But our attitude towards them is what matters. They are helping us in our work. It is not us who is doing a great favor by employing and paying them. It is them, who are doing a great favor to us by doing our menial work and giving us the precious time to engage in various creative activities. You are getting precious time for a paltry sum. I would also go to the extent of saying, good servants are god in disguise. Do recognize them.
Just employing servants does not absolve us of our moral responsibility of doing our chores.
May be, lets do our work once in a while, so that we do not lose touch in the work and also dont delve in lethargy. And of-course, to appreciate the dignity of labour and the perfection which we talk about only when the maid does the work and which always remains a distant dream when we do the work :)

Great Men are selfish
Selfishness is about people doing things, which they feel will make them live happy. So I would say Great Men are more selfish than common man.
Common man buys house, becomes relatively richer than his neighbour and spends a miserly life ( we are mostly worried about relative w el being rather than absolute property we possess ) derives happiness which lives only for a short amount of time. His expectation never gets filled up. He is always caught up in the state of donkey that is tantalized with the carrot tied to the stick. However it tries, the carrot moves for away.
But great men are different. They work up on a goal, a vision that will lead to the betterment of THEIR soceity, THEIR country, THEIR Countrymen upliftment. They bring about social transformation. During the course of the same, they experience bliss, the highest state of happiness that cannot be quantized. They are happy for ever. They are really Selfish people.
They act for their community as a whole, not because for the want of bliss which is never achievable, if one works on a very narrow circle of one and ones family, but it is what interests them and it is what they love doing. Thus they dont even have the mental feeling that, their actions are motivated by the result bliss, not by inner urge for the cause. And if Great Men does the work only for attaining bliss, then they become comman man and bliss becomes a tantalizing carrot.
They are full of energy and vision, they dont have time to think about petty issues. They do not give a thought about their whitening hair, flourishing neighbour or tempting sweets in the fridge. They are engrossed in their vision and work. They are happy for ever. But somehow , these things are termed as altruistic and says it is opposite to selfishness even by wikipedia
Do someone change the wikipedia entry. Altruism = More selfishness ( In 1984, this word can be considered, ofcourse courtesy is AK)
These guys are certainly more selfish, as they are constantly working for their cause and country. we are less selfish, as we are worried about only ourselves. They are also more happy and wise. Though becoming great one in a night is impossible, We can atleast make a step in the direction. Are we fools to let only Gr8 men have all the fun?

The 2 Wolves
Is Man good or bad? Any person is not a digital value of 1 or 0. Man cannot be tagged as totally white ( godly is signified by white and black for evil) or totally black. There are some of the shades like Godly, Good, Neutral, Bad, Evil in the English language. If i elaborate on more shades, people may not appreciate. (Basically I dont know :) )
There are 2 wolves in the mind of each individual. The godly one, which want to steer us in the right direction and the evil one, which wants to take us in the path of desire, lust, laziness and eats our good time.
Being an engineer , let me bring some maths :). Each moment, our mind is oriented to the grey shade (The various proportions of black and white), thats decided by the strengths of the godly one and the bady. To take it further, every act of us in the integral calculus (summation) of all the sums of strengths in each moment (the weightage of the latest moment is more and the weightage decreases gradually for the previous moments) all along our life. The bady is always consistent in its approach to deflect. The godly one is not consistent enough i.e not trained to be consistent enough, but has the advantage of being in the good books of the owner, mind.
As it applies to us, the wolves get their strengths from their food and support. The godly one has to be strengthened by, thinking good thoughts continualy. The aspiration of each person, the goal for the society had to be resolved again and again in our mind. if the thoughts are not renewed, the weightage of each moment decreases over time and the strength of the godly one diminishes. The godly ones food consists of mainly the inspiration from the great lives in the world, spirituality, arts and philosophy. On the other hand, the evil wolf gets a lot of food from the environment. violence, vulgur jokes and scenes, sentimental exploitation (From TV, magazines, people)are only some of the dishes into which, the menu of the evil wolf can be classified into. The senses are mostly occupied to serve the evil wolf. So be careful with the senses. Lets be vigilant and stop the senses from feeding the bady incessantly. Moreover, lets make the line shorter, by making the godly one line longer. I.e Feed the godly one continually.
To make in a single line, The wolf that wins, depends on which one you feed and how often you feed. atlast, it depends on you. if you want to win, feed the right one.
Thoughts transform into action. mind them or else your mind will be engulfed by the bady :)

What is this blog really
There are cherished moments in our life. ( it is like being the first...... being the best one during....) (Yeah this blog is not enough to brag about myself :)) . . We think back the feeling and live in nostalgia triggered by the interactions with our relatives, friends, photographs, videos so on.. It is good and gr8 and I am not a person against them. but should i remind myself of it? Lest I forget.
There are moments of doom and failure and short comings (Nil.. wont tell a word as most of us). Which does no good but discourage us! Which we keeps hiting our brain propotional to the force we apply to restraint it. but should i remind myself of it? Lest I forget.
There are lots of scholastic material which we wants to remember for life/for the year/for semester/for 2 days before exam. But should i remind myself of it? But passion and interest being in another direction, no great fruit and want is there in the argument. If one wants to remember for his interest, ofcourse he will.
There are somethings taught to us, by people we like, by people we hate, by books, by experience, by ones intellect. There is a saying in tamil. The bread you carry and the teachings one gets, wont last forever! So why not swim in the musings to recollect, replenish the great moments of wisdom.
Thats what i hope the blog will be. What i want to remind myself will ofcourse come to light only if i had recollected the same.
